| At my 40-year checkup, the doctor (who also has Nella as a patient) told
me I need to get regular exercise. Advice for a healthy person was that
a Nordic Track would be most time efficient, but that a treadmill was
reasonable if I only had space for one unit. Both the doctor and I saw
immediately that there is no way Nella could use a Nordic Track, so I
bought a treadmill. I got the best motorized treadmill I could afford,
with the idea that Nella could use it also. We ran into a couple of
snags there. |

Recently we purchased a Pilates exercise machine from QVC. Their web site
said the unit IS 18 for easier access etc. When it arrived it was at
ground level. We contacted QVC regarding this matter. Thery treated us
like we were stupid and said that we had to buy an additional stand to make
it 18 high. When we pointed out that their website says the unit IS 18
high and they dont even list the additiobnal stand they tried to play it
off as a mis-entry. Being an experienced web builder I wondered why they
hadnt fixed the obviously fraudlent (IMO) ad copy if it was an honest
mistake. (It would only take a few minutes to fix it if it was an
accidental oversite) No response so far. It has been 4 days since we first
pointed out the problem to them. They continue to act in a patronizing and
fraudulent manner. |
| I didnt give much consideration to a manual treadmill. It didnt seem
appropriate for me, and I was concerned that weakness in Nellas legs
might give her the same problems with a manual treadmill that she has
with an exercise bike. |
| A couple of schools in my area have sporting/exercise equipment tag
sales in order to raise money for new equipment, you might want to check
the schools in your area. |

I have a gym membership that is currently costing me $50 a month, but will
be dropping to $25 a month beginning next month. I keep thinking about
what
I would be saving if I canceled the membership and began doing some speed
walking outside, and perhaps purchased an inexpensive piece of equipment
for
when the weather is nasty. My concerns are that I might not be able to get
as good of a workout as at the gym (I use a variety of machines there and
am
concerned that with a home machine Ill just have my lower body toned) and
that I might get bored working out alone (although I do get bored at the
gym
sometimes, too).
For those of you who work out consistently without a gym membership, what
do
you do? Do you consider yourself to be in above average physical
condition?
What exercise equipment do you own and what would you recommend?
I appreciate any input on this...
